Who is this course for?

This course is ideal for 14-18 year old students interested in pursuing a degree and/or career in Engineering. Our students use this programme either to strengthen their application for an Engineering degree and/or to see whether studying Engineering suits them.

Students are not expected to have any prior Engineering experience. However, there will be stretch work set for those who have studied the subject previously, or want a challenge.

What will you be studying?

This course takes a broad approach to Engineering, covering the foundations of the elements of study of an undergraduate course in Engineering at university. In this way, it acts as an excellent introduction for students who are considering further study.  

Topics that are studied include the general function of engines, looking at changes in energy, pressure, temperature and state. As well as this, students look at semiconductor physics and its real-life application in devices such as transistors and LEDs.  

In the second part of the course the focus shifts to beam deflection, looking at the mathematical understanding of integration and geometry in relation to this.

Lastly, constant-acceleration kinematics are explored, and the basics of complexity theory and dimensional analysis are introduced.

Who will be teaching you?

After graduated with a first-class degree in Mathematics from the University of Cambridge in 2011.

Following this, he worked for 4 years as a Software Engineer at HP, where he specialised in natural language processing.

Dan has tutored on the Oxbridge International Summer School for three years, focusing both on engineering and coding. He has also provided one-to-one admission support to students aiming for Oxford and Cambridge for a number of years.
